Course Tips

Forward

Desert Heat is a fast and open track once the right shortcuts are taken, yet there are several tricky sections such as the chicane before the bridge and the blind drop-off just before the gas station that can either make or break your lap.

Time Comment
0:20 Ease off the accelerator briefly and take a tight inside line for first shortcut.
0:39 Take the right turn just before the bridge slower than might seem possible and turn in late for the sharper left onto the bridge to ensure a clean passage through this section.
1:04 Brake lightly and early for this tightening right turn and keep the inside line. Try to take the small jump in a straight line.
1:20 Brake lightly immediately after landing for this fast chicane. Take care during exit to keep the car trimmed.
1:28 Brake lightly and turn in blind just left of the cactus. Coast until the car is settled after the jump.
1:54 A high gear bend with a double, tightening profile. Start wide, drop a gear, cut in and apex late to exit cleanly.
2:04 A "slow-in, fast-out" approach is important through this tricky turn. Aim to take the second part of the turn at full throttle in order to maximise exit speed for the straight.

Reverse

The reverse version requires a very different treatment of the square turn by the waterfall, has you catching even more air off the jump by the gas station and requires skillful heavy braking from top speed for the hairpin before the bridge.

Time Comment
0:10 Resist the urge to turn in too early as this can hurt your exit speed and line. Run outside the cactus, just cutting onto the dirt.
0:14 Again, don't cut the turn too sharply, the terrain will unsettle the car. A slight hop off the apex is ideal.
0:22 Start very wide here and aim to take the turn at full throttle. Ease off briefly just before the apex to trim the exit line.
0:46 Try to avoid the tumbleweeds as far as possible as they will throw off your line from the jump. Aim to be heading slightly to the right at launch time.
0:48 Brake in the air (this works!), land and coast, following the track around to the right. Try to avoid launching off the bank ahead.
0:56 This chicane can be taken at full speed. Try to straighten the line as much as possible.
1:04 Begin turning left before entering this shortcut. Take care to keep the car trimmed.
1:10 Brake slightly before the jump - the following left turn is quite sharp. Start wide and cut deep, exiting more to the left and setting up for the following right.
1:27 Brake early and evenly for this right, try to maintain traction during braking rather than skidding or drifting around the turn.
1:44 Begin turning left before entering this shortcut. Careful throttle control is necessary throughout its length.
