Skill Mods are a series of abilities in the game that can be applied to any car the player owns. They were released on 30th May 2012 and replaced the Driver Skills feature. Skill Mods work in a similar way to performance parts: they enhance the player car's abilities by making powerups stronger and even giving the car new attributes. This allows the player to tune any car the way he/she wants, for instance, to obtain maximum performance in a specific type of event, or simply create a car that gives more cash or reputation at the end of any race. Skill Mods are an important strategic element in the game. They are broken down into three categories: Race, Pursuit, and Explore. There are 33 Skill Mods in total. Each Skill Mod part ranges in quality from 1 to 4 stars, and will have a greater effect depending on its star rating. 1-star Skill Mods can be bought using in-game cash, while the remaining 2, 3 and 4-star Skill Mods can be won from Lucky Draw cards after completing an event. In addition, Skill Mods can be obtained by purchasing Skill Mod card packs. Each car can have a maximum of 5 Skill Mods installed, except if it is a special car that comes with a pre-installed Skill Mod. Such cars still allow 5 Skill Mods to be installed, for a total of 6.
To install a Skill Mod:
Drag a part from the store or from the inventory and drop it onto the car. Pending changes to your Skill Mods are shown under skill effects; commit these changes by clicking on the save changes button. Skill Mods can be stacked, meaning you can install multiple skills of the same type to your car at once. For example, a car can have 3x Extended Nitrous for a total combined effect. However, each skill has its own cap and when this is reached, that skill is MAXED.
To uninstall (sell) a Skill Mod:
Drag a part (one that is currently installed on the car) from the parts panel on the left to the sell box at the bottom right. The bottom right panel shows how much cash will be given to the player for selling the part. Confirm by clicking on the save changes button – this will sell the part permanently. Skill Mods can also be sold from the inventory.
